DIGITAL PAINTING OF LION AND RANDOM COMMENTARY


 

 

MY MAIN SUBJECT NEEDS ANIMACY

Alluring as what it represent, but in itself, my subject is a little boring. It's a stool after all. It might not attract everyone but it has a message, an appeal. Everyone seems to be interested in the caged lion but if there was no stool in front of the cage, you would not want to go over there and look at the lion closely. 


Thought about freedom a bit, the lion in the illustration probably wants it. When we talk about freedom of countries or nations or creeds, it is often said about the emancipated and newly empowered that they were daring enough to give their lives for the freedom. This lion here has got it the worst. He can't even give his life for that cause, his captors will not perish his life but they will make him live his life in a cage. Not even the liberty to risk his life, it must burgeon the utmost feeling of uselessness.

My Process for this digital painting for quite haphazard. I had not visioned this exact picture, and certainly I had not formed any mind map. I tried by a single tile with a bit of wooden texture and used it as a brush to form the floor. 

From there it was all about going to various free stock image sites and looking at pictures for a while. I only used the reference picture for Lion found on unsplash. I did not completely imitate it to the perfection, rather I just used it to paint the lion in the painting look like a lion. I could not have used that reference from my memory. Besides that I am committed enough to go to the zoo and sit around the lion cage to observe and soak in all the information about its anatomy. Even though there is a great zoo in my town.
