Pakistan marks 5 August as a dark day. Let’s get into the recent history of events that lead the Kashmir situation to this bleak point.
This day, two years before Indian Government took the leap and tried to raise their tyrannical banner to full mast. Already living an apocalyptic life, Kashmiris saw a fresh doomsday as the statewide lock-down.
The blood of the innocent civilians killed(martyred) should have been enough to turn the sky red so the whole world could get involved in mending the situation but alas it never is the case when the blood spilled belonged to the weak.
There has been violence in the Indian-administered side - the state of Jammu and Kashmir - for 30 years due to a separatist insurgency against Indian rule.
As a result of amendments in the Indian Constitution, Mainly revocation of the independent status of Kashmir under the Article 370, which has rendered the semi autonomous state of Jammu and Kashmir to nothing and now it has to comply with the Indian Government rules like other states.
But why are lock-downs and curfews put into practice if this is a constitutional matter?
Historically Kashmir has been a disputed region since the British left from the subcontinent in 1947. Pakistan and India are both claimants of the region. One seemingly simple way to rectify this feud would be to hold elections in the region. Whether they would like to be with India, Pakistan or be an independent state. In practice, it’s more complicated than that. It’s a Muslim majority area and if the elections are held right away, it will not come to desirable fruition for India. Kashmir might not choose to be with Pakistan but it will definitely will not join India keeping in view the recent resentment in the public caused by the Indian government with violence, coercion, unwarranted house searches, house arrests of Muslim leaders, and even killing on the street by the Indian Security forces.
Even Indian Law and constitutional experts are splitted into two groups. They are a few who are disputing the legality of this messing around with the constitution.
Curfew and lock-down started in August 2019 and for the next five months, even cellular service wasn’t available for the Kashmiris.
We’ve been well into the realm of modern war and battle tactics, at least for the past 100 years or so. Numbers decide the interests of nations nowadays. The reason that India has been able to do this despite being on the wrong side of the equation is because military numbers are in their favour. In this dispute Pakistan cannot afford to be an open adversary to Indian Army. They have their issues to deal with while Indian Nationalist Government can easily spare a few hundred thousand soldiers in a battle if they have to.
Both Pakistan and India being aware of this, will never go to war again. Pakistan will only try to pursue the international forums to raise their concerns but that takes time, always more than your anticipation. Most likely, UNO and other organizations will not be able to intervene much. India on the other side will keep stomping on innocent Kashmiri heads and keep encroaching the state by allowing Hindus from all over India to migrate to Kashmir and buy properties so the natural demographic of the region could be changed from Muslim majority to Hindu majority.
It’s not written in stone that India will win in this situation but their chances are higher, which is all that matters right now to them. Any outcome against Indian Nationalist Government’s wishes would be a statistical anomaly at this point.
Pakistan on the other hand is trying to gain their traction by going to the UNO and OIC. As I am writing this, the president of the UN security council is an Indian. What chance could they have here. OIC on the other hand is a timid and an obscure organization, the existence of which makes you wonder why it even exists. To summarize both of these organisations in one sentence, I would say,
UNO is useless and OIC is spineless.
It’s so painful to be on a side where all our efforts and good wishes seem futile. One key difference between good and evil is that in the reign of evil, there’s no suspension of curbing the little good that’s left alive. While good often ignores evil until it’s too late. The predicament in the current Kashmir situation is that Indian Nationalist Bakhts or whatever, always had too much power. Kashmiris never had a stepping ground. When the Bakhts are done with it, Kashmiris might not even have the room to stand on their toes.
